NAU seeks a Vice President and Director of Athletics to serve as the strategic leader of its Division I athletics program, reporting directly to the President and serving on the President's Cabinet. The VP/AD will oversee 15 sport programs, approximately 350 student-athletes, and a multimillion-dollar operating budget, while leading a full staff of coaches and administrators. The ideal candidate views athletics as an integral partner in advancing the university's broader mission — not as a siloed department. They will bring demonstrated experience building cross-campus partnerships with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Advancement, Enrollment, and Communications, and will leverage athletics to drive student recruitment, strengthen community ties, and support NAU's research enterprise. Key responsibilities include developing a comprehensive fundraising and revenue generation strategy — encompassing ticket sales, corporate partnerships, facility rentals, and NIL initiatives — while stewarding resources with fiscal discipline. The VP/AD will lead a student-centric, mission driven department that embodies the Lumberjack spirit building the brand locally, regionally, and nationally. The successful candidate will ensure full NCAA, Big Sky, and MPSF Conference compliance; champion Title IX and gender equity; and foster a values-driven culture of academic achievement and athletic excellence. They will partner with Student Affairs to deliver integrated mental health, academic advising, and life skills programming for student-athletes.
